Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, has made ten demands to President William Ruto regarding the Finance Bill 2023. Raila wants Ruto to withdraw the Finance Bill that has caused controversy in the country and instead focus on lowering the cost of living for Kenyans. The Finance Bill was passed by the National Assembly on May 31, 2023, and has since been met with opposition from various quarters, including the opposition and some members of the ruling party.
Among the demands made by Raila are the immediate withdrawal of the Finance Bill, the apology to Kenyans for the burden the bill has caused, and the formulation of a new tax bill that is fair to all Kenyans. He also demanded that the government address the high cost of fuel and food, which has made life difficult for many Kenyans.
Raila has also called for the immediate release of all political prisoners and the cessation of political persecution of opposition leaders. He further demanded that the government address the issue of insecurity in the country, particularly in the northern region, where banditry and terrorism have been on the rise.
