Kanyenyaini Ward Representative Grace Nduta has been suspended from the Murang’a County Assembly for four months following allegations of gross misconduct. Nduta was accused of criticizing her colleagues on the Muranga County Politics (MCP) WhatsApp group. During a discussion on the health sector, Nduta claimed that the health sector in the county was poor, terming it on its deathbed. She accused her colleagues of laxity when overseeing the county executive to deliver better medical services to the residents. The assembly’s Majority Leader, Francis Kibe, said Nduta was given an opportunity to apologize and withdraw her statement but refused.

This is not the first time a Kenyan politician has been suspended or punished for comments made in a WhatsApp group. In 2022, a Kakamega MCA was suspended for three months for making derogatory remarks about women in a WhatsApp group.
